and this is sad:

cnn.com
If this boy had not had access to guns, would he have been able to kill his whole family? Guns are a great equalizer of power, and for children, who want to be powerful, such a huge temptation. What kid hasn't wished their parents dead at some point? But with a gun a child or teen can actually carry out that wish- before they have time to cool down. Since their brains are undeveloped and lack the adult development in impulse control centers (of the pre-frontal cortex, if I recall) guns available to children and teens are a really horrible aspect of our society.

I hope everyone deplores weapons in the hands of children and teens- but with a culture of weaponry as we have in this country is there any doubt this type of thing will be repeated over and over? I do not doubt it. I just hope my kids never chance to fall in with children whose parents keep guns unlocked in their house. But how can I know? It is something I ask- before my kids go to sleep overs. It is something I have been asked- so at least responsible people are thinking about it.
