I agree that it would be preferable if we could recruit others to the discussion. We have done the heavy lifting<g>, let's see some participation.

I cannot be very anecdotal. I have not, to my knowledge, known a crack head. I have known cokeheads, but I could not say that I had formulated any generalizations based on the limited sample.

On the progression of drug use: perhaps I was unclear. I presume that some number are better able to control their habit, and some are more prone to be abusive. That is the whole basis upon which I suppose the sensitivity of markets to price. In addition, I suppose that those prone to be abusive need a transitional time before things get out of hand, which might be affected by price. Finally, I suppose that even the junkie cannot be thoroughly shielded from price.

You think that we are not "winning the war" because residual drug use is fairly high. I think we are doing pretty well because it would be so much worse without the interdiction effort. I also think that the stigmatization and fear of jail provides incentives to seek rehab. Perhaps the fact that I have known few users since adolescence colors my perception. I do not perceive drug use to be widespread.

Well, perhaps others will chime in.....
