Yes, like Clinton... there were legitimate military exemptions granted if you were in college with a major in education and the like, there was an encouragement for teachers, we needed teachers then and we still need teachers today... teachers can be the true leaders of a nation, they teach our children during their formative years and mold their thinking into mature and contributing adults... well, that's the plan anyway...<g> but, yes, Clinton was a coward for running..... all of us are human and we all have some character or personality defects or weaknesses, Clinton's public life has given us an opportunity to see his personal shortcomings... we all have them... minor shortcomings could readily be overlooked or addressed in an appropriate forum, things happen and no one is perfect, but military cowardice when called to duty is unforgivable.....
No one in their right mind wants to go into a situation where their life is at constant risk of the gravest extreme... but, what kind of country would we have if everyone ran from tyranny, and what kind of life would we live... I'm not arguing the rightness or wrongness of our military involvement in Vietnam, that's a totally separate issue... but when our country calls, we serve... nothing can be more basic, and nothing can be more honorable than that... I'm ever so grateful to be alive today.....<g>
