HONG KONG--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 4, 2001--The excitement and bustle of Hong Kong is now just a keystroke away, thanks to a new online site that brings one of Asia's most dynamic cities to tourists and travel planners worldwide.
Telecom Directories Limited (TDL), a joint venture between Hong Kong-based PCCW and Canada's Bell ActiMedia, today launched YPTourist.com, an online tourist guide for visitors already in Hong Kong or those considering their next holiday.
YPTourist.com features an updated "Virtual Tour" of Hong Kong, enabling visitors to view detailed interactive location maps and photos. The user-friendly bilingual site offers personalized planning features including date book, memo-pad, packing, and "to do" lists.
Other features include an audio English-Cantonese dictionary, tour listings, a currency converter and tailor-made search engines for finding hotels, restaurants, shops and events. Original e-cards of prominent local attractions can be sent without charge, while a "Game Zone" offers five fun ways to explore Hong Kong.
YPTourist.com, a member site of portal YP.com.hk, is backed by the globally recognized "Yellow Pages" brand. YP.com.hk lists 300,000 Hong Kong companies under 1,800 classifications and registers more than 6 million page views each month. The portal hosts several of Hong Kong's popular sites, including YPFood.com, YPMap.com and Global Trade Directory GTDirectory.com.
Telecom Directories Limited Managing Director Raymond Larochelle said today's YPTourist.com launch strengthens TDL's online position, and is intended as only the first in a series of Internet initiatives from Yellow Pages.
"The new site joins the growing list of world-class sites developed by TDL since the launch of our Yellow Pages Directory on the Internet in 1997," Mr. Larochelle said. "Top mobile operators such as PCCW's 1010 and One2Free, and prominent Internet portals including Netvigator have all sought to offer the site on their own networks. Their rapid growth and geographic spread will contribute greatly to expanding our links throughout the region, and help boost brand awareness."
Attending the launch was Selina Chow, Chairman of Hong Kong Tourist Association, who offered her personal endorsement together with the Tourist Association's whole-hearted support for the site.
"YPTourist.com further strengthens Hong Kong's commitment to information technology and customer service for visitors," said Mrs. Chow. "As we welcome another year it is encouraging to see TDL leading the way, developing innovative services for our tourist trade."
In the future, said Mr. Larochelle, YPTourist.com will be offered through a variety of telecommunication devices besides desktop PCs, such as mobile phones or other new handheld technologies.
