I am just curious: how do you know that Ashcroft was being cynical? I realize that it is possible, and I am certainly unfamiliar with the case, knowing no more than I have cursorily read. I am just troubled by the positive assertion, and I have some doubt that Ashcroft would have made the allegations if they were so easily refutable. I mean, no one every accused him of stupidity..........
