I am sure that your friend is not lying.....
I am sure that East Detroit is quite different. My neighborhood is not upscale, but middling. (Maybe the plumbers are journeymen, they do not strike me as earning 100k). You are describing a working class neighborhood, it seems to me (funny how we are loathe to use the phrase), somewhat like the ethnic working class neighborhoods, in weathered row houses, in south "Bawlmer", as, for example, seen in "Hairspray". On the other hand, not all of the country is East Detroit, and marijuana is not a hard drug.
Your description of "Castaway" matches my expectations. Thanks for the heads- up, though. I finally caught "Meet the Parents" at one of those second run theaters ($1.50 per head). It was too excruciating to be truly funny, and although "There's Something About Mary" had more goofy gambits, TSAM was the better movie. Still, I kind of liked it, and the ending was a relief. I was going to see "O Brother Where Art Thou", but there was a tremendous rush to get out on Saturday, as a consequence, I guess of warmer temperatures, and the ticket line was too long for us to make the intended show, so we made other arrangements. Maybe next week...... |
