tc, your reading list is interesting. I read all of those articles. What I saw is what we call here a "shiny pebble". MCOM is neither a gorilla game nor a royalty play. It IS most certainly interesting and bears watching for those who are inclined to wander outside of these strategies.

I found these statements disqualify MCOM from my radar scan:
„h The company is losing lots of money. Then again, so are almost all internet related stocks and wireless communication companies.
„h MCOM has only managed to sign up 30,000 subscribers thus far. However, their current network is in only 3 markets and they have spent almost nothing on advertising and almost no resources promoting the product. Also, this is a less attractive product offering 28.8 Kbps, not the soon to be 128Kbps Ricochet2. Instead of pushing R1, they have concentrated almost entirely on developing Ricochet2 and preparing for national deployment. Most people that live in their coverage areas never even heard of Ricochet!

MCOM has not crossed the chasm, that is for sure. It's barriers to entry are not clearly stated in any of your cites, except a one phrase discussion about 27 patents.

BTW, in early discusions about QCOM's HDR, the ability to deploy using pole mounted radios was discussed. That may not be such an advantage to MCOM.

Your bringing MCOM her for discussion is appreciated. Now if you would only make a case for gorilladom using our standards, that would be great. If you don't chose to, then I suggest you do some more study to understand our frame of reference.
