A much older fictionalized treatment of the drug war I really liked was Robert Stone's book, "Dog Soldiers". It had a different set of
political overtones, which are hopefully out of style now. Though you never know, with all the retreads going into the new
government, funding foreign policy "initiatives" with domestic drug running may come back in vogue again.

Great book. I also liked the film with Nick Nolte, Tuesday Weld, and Michael Moriarty. Most Stone books are excellent social commentary, as well as Delillo (Great Jones Street and White Noise remain favorites).
