I don't think so. Microsoft had to manufacture two entirely different Xbox versions then and since Nvidia designed the DDR chipset it is extremely unlikely that they would also design a Rambus chipset without any experience with this memory technology. In fact, probably only Intel would have the experience to design an Xbox RDRAM chipset in time. Microsoft wouldn't sign six(!) year agreements if they hadn't decided which memory technology to use. Forbes just made a mistake. If Microsoft had really decided to abandon DDR in favor for Rambus there would be lots of stories all over the net.
