To all: Did anyone notice a press release from VLSI about a month ago announcing that they have started producing Gigabit Ethernet chips...the VNS 6700...the first in the industry. The chip is a Media AAccess Controller based on technology from Packet Engines Inc. Foundry Networks is the first customer for the new chips. I own stock in both VLSI and SEEQ and so am not biased either way...but VLSI is much much larger than SEEQ...so I'm concerned about market share and economies of scale and the like vis a vis SEEQ. Can anyone enlighten me about whether these chips actualy compete with each other or are they complementary? Is the Seeq Gigabit chip actually in production?
