Albert, <were are you getting your info about mustang>

I merely put two and two together. AMD said Mustang was cancelled because of "lack of customer interest." Yet these same customers are buying large-cache Xeons running at only 700 MHz. Why wouldn't these customers want large-cache CPUs that can potentially run at even higher speeds? It's because there aren't any 4-way and above SMP platforms to plug those CPUs into. And whose fault is that? AMD's!

I've got to hand it to AMD, however. They did a wonderful job spinning their failure into a story of sour grapes.

<what old commercial systems are you talking about?>

One example was a set of rack-mounted cluster servers based on K6-2 platforms. Also, many non Tier 1 OEMs have introduced various models of Athlon PCs for the workplace. I don't have specific links. All I know is that I've been hearing about AMD's potential penetration into the commercial sector ever since K6-III "beat" the Pentium III in business benchmarks at the time of their releases (early 1999).
