No Tim, I haven't seen anything about a fireball over NZ. This is the first I heard. I didn't see it in any newspapers either?

That was a good link for craters on Mars! But for the air and water, we'd look about the same.

Food for thought.

What I did read about was a storm in Dubbo, where there is a Globalstar Gateway [GG]. Dubbo is now an emergency area or some such as there was a lot of damage. I don't know whether the gateway was damaged. Quite likely as it's very exposed and would have got the full blast. But maybe the engineers made it tough! I hope so.

Globalstar has got enough not going well to add gateways blown over.

There was only A$50m damage, which is maybe US$30m so probably not a big problem for the gateway which is a well-engineered structure designed to cope with wind without wobbling and losing signals, so I guess it could cope and probably not even lose service. Losing service wouldn't be good, so they'd make them tough.
