You can't believe one word the government or the media writes about the drug war and the number of users. Why? Most important the numbers just don't add up, depending on which source you select to make your case. Second, you can't interview people about their drug use. Its like, "So do you still beat your wife?". Er, ah, no. Neocon, looks I was wrong about one thing. The DEA report states that purity of drugs is up and price is down (heroin). So much for interdiction and price. Here is one of the stat pages. For drug use being down so much it sure looks like its not working with the kids. Could it be the adults are just hiding it really well? usdoj.gov Keep in mind it is the DEA, and what do they want? More money of course. Good news and bad news. The good news, the number of our agents killed has steadily fallen. The bad news...look at those budget numbers. Thats a lot of cash. usdoj.gov I really wonder what I am to make of the claim that drug use is down, but when I read the percentage of people arrested who test positive for drugs, and I see it increasing from ten years ago...well it just doesn't add up. I guess I am to believe that the DEA and local law enforcement are just getting better at catching the bad guys (who are also the drug users) or the drug users are just more stupid than the non-drug users and are easier to catch. usdoj.gov I don't buy a word of it.
