Eric L: Hey I thought I had UMTS right.

Since there is no use of any "CDMA" derivative in GSM land, whether there is a hyphen re WCDMA on not is not crucial, is it? Note: in Japan, and elsewhere in Asia, it seems to be WCDMA straight and simple.

How would you prioritize their efforts to maximize Nokia shareholder value?

Since that is a major and real question, I would suggest that Nokia's temporary emphasis has to be on making GPRS a valid competitor to 1x for packet data, but it would seem prudent to try to begin to have a valid 1x entry asap and certainly cover both 1xEV and EDGE (if EDGE is a major GSM/GPRS evolution option in reality), and then last UMTS.

You may differ in your ideas, but those are mine.

I assume Nokia management will do its best to enhance Nokia's potential across the board, especially by positioning the company to be a player in all wireless technologies.

Best.

Chaz

PS And the march forward re GPRS seems like it is to stumbling and halting music at the moment, but then the music should hit a more solid beat over the next year and the march improve.
