Good Morning ---A positive note for a change ---from briefing.com ---Yahoo! (YHOO 27 13/16 -1 5/16) and Motorola (MOT 21 3/4 +9/16) officially kick-off earnings season for the tech sector when they report their results on Wednesday... The street expecting gains of $0.13 and $0.19, respectively... However, I don't want to get into the specifics of either company at the moment... Instead I want to focus on the bigger picture... Starting Wednesday the news cycle will begin to shift from decidedly negative (warnings season) to positive... Fact is that even during this period of economic sluggishness, the tech sector is expected to post high single-digit/low double-digit yoy growth -- and that's on top of one of the best quarters (Q499) in the sector's history.

While cautionary guidance for the first half of CY01 is apt to defuse much of the impact of the relatively solid earnings news, the steady diet of positive earnings surprises should at least provide a short-term boost to market psychology. Investor psychology will get another boost at the end of this month when the Fed cuts rates once again... And don't be surprised by another 50bp cut, as Greenspan & Co. can't be pleased by way the market shrugged off its efforts last week.

As psychology begins to improve so will liquidity, as money flows into the sector will accelerate. Improved investor sentiment, declining interest rates and increased money flows is powerful combination.

BEST WISHES
BILL
