Folks, I just got back from CES. In the North Hall, CES featured broadband and the DSL Forum. ADC was prominently displayed along with NT, CSCO, ALA, and several other major league players. They were showing Avidia next to an ALA edge switch. ADCT's marquee was right next to CSCO and ALA. Missing this year (compared to last) were RBAK, WSTL, CMTN, and other smaller DSL plays.

Didn't get a chance to attend the DSL vs. cable "debate". IMO after reading the brief/paper, several broadband technologies will ultimately provide this NEEDED service to the consumer - DSL (for urban areas due to necessary distance from the CO); cable (for more rural areas); and satellite (for remote areas - or disgruntled cable users who switch). The new item for satellite was the introduction of the DirectPC by Hughes (GMH - now Boeing) featuring 2-way broadband. The previous generation equipment required an analog (56k) upload.

According to Media Metrics and The Gartner Group, approximately 10% of the population has broadband. With what the market will introduce WRT future consumer electronics, I believe the market for broadband equipment will be the next boom - and ADCT carries both DSL and cable stuff!
