>>>By the numbers it looks as if Zips are selling at 1 million units per quarter.<<<

Hi. I'm back after a weekend of moving just a couple of Avenues over to a swell new pad here in the big city. I can't wait to get rid of all of these boxes, break out my Sharpie set, and start scrawling my anti-Iomega graffiti all over the walls like the old place.

Just kidding.

It looks like Iomega announced the 6 million mark for their "replacement" for the floppy. Like their fellow Utah comrades on the basketball court, they just can't seem to up their performance for the big time. Care to compare 1.44MB sales vs. Zip sales for the Q?

The rate of 1.5 Million Zips per Quarter may sound impressive, but this rate has not increased much for a year now. Worse, the percentage of shipments to OEMs is getting higher, meaning margins are suffering compared to shipping just to retail.

No, my friends, Iomega makes a popular peripheral; a welcome addition to a higher-end computer package. But a 1.44MB floppy replacement it is not.
