I'm not a shorter and especially not with biotechs that are soundly managed, which on the whole I think HGSI is. As for the science, who really knows outside a tight professional circle?

However, there are those who would agree with you about HGSI. Speaking personally, I would find the stock too volatile and with too many upside possibilities as well as down side risks that may not be visible to the average Joe or opalapril -- or Tuck, for that matter. Given a Bush Administration and political pressures from the anti-abortion right wing, I've been thinking one of the better shorting bets for those so inclined would be a stem cell company in need of raising cash or with hopes of a government grant.

Also, check out TKTX. In addition to the possibility of getting stuck with a judgment for infringing one of Amgen's patents -- a case already tried but still pending before the judge for a final decision -- they've recently had a series of FDA setbacks but the stock (inexplicably to me) hasn't yet reflected them. Maybe failures were already priced in, but I doubt it.
