my bet is the CPUcooling fan is making the noise ... or *perhaps, but less likely* the box cooling fan ...
and the resulting heat build up is causing the malfunction of the CPU and the memory

if not those, the bushings/bearings in the HD itself ...
could be the noise, and could be a combo of both this and the above but the HD buzzing shouldn't account for the mem leak by itself....
