Certainly the mere reiteration of forms is not a recipe for progress. But it is erroneous to equate that with thinking one has an idea of truth or goodness. Progress is itself an idea, and your censure is predicated on the belief that you know better than some of our ancestors what humanity needs to flourish. The trick is to innovate without killing the "golden goose", those ideas, values, and habits which make for a dynamic society, by encouraging experimentation, investment, risk taking, and so on........
