former joe,

"I'm sentimental the old box served me well for 3 years. I owe it my best effort before I pull it's plug :)"

you brought a tear to my eye with that remark! <g3>

seriously, i like the approach. i understand it. i get what cheeky is saying, too.

on my old win95 dell xps166, the cd-rom drive is giving me "_:drive not accessible" errors. my natural inclination was to dig around looking for causes and cures. and the more i read the more i encountered people saying, "man, they're built like rubbish and they are cheap as dirt! buy a new one and save yourself the hassle!"

LOL! and it's true. so i'm getting a delta 50x cd-rom drive from staples for $20 (after a $20 mail-in rebate). i bet i'll plug it in and all will be better.

but to get back to the old box.... i sold one of my first dell xps166's and i still ask the girl how it is! maybe when she no longer has use for it, i'll ask her if she wants to return it. <g3>

good luck with the fan.

:)
