Power deals fuel PNG gas hopes - The Australian Financial Review, January 8
BY GARRY WEST

The next step in the proposed Papua New Guinea-Queensland gas pipeline project could occur in February 2001. The project director, John Powell, of Chevron said on 5 January 2001 he hopes Queensland Government power suppliers, Energex, Ergon Energy and Tarong Energy, will finalise three months of negotiations by signing to take the Papua New Guinea (PNG) gas during the month. If a deal is clinched, it will coincide with talks between the Australian and PNG Governments on the funding of PNG's interest in the project's infrastructure.
