| First, I do not recall the particular exchange, and I have already said that I agree with the Bush position, and do not consider it merely opportunistic. I think you are confusing something I said with something e- Bill said, or I was being ironic. Second, of course the Republicans intend to press their agenda. I do not see the malignancy that you do in the Bush team. I like Colin Powell, Condi Rice, the Cheneys, Don Rumsfeld, Tommy Thompson, and some of the others, and have no particular opinion on some of the rest. In any event, there are no Ayatollahs, clerics, or Holy Rollers on board, that I am aware of. Third, I do not think that the Republican agenda amounts to theocracy. At most, it would return us to the situation, in several areas, that pertained in the mid or late 60s, after compulsory prayer was banned, but before Roe v Wade, when each state decided how to handle the abortion issue. That was not a notably theocratic time. |
