Hi Aus,

From what I read lately, Palm is preparing OS 4.0 release soon, and OS 5.0 release later in the year. The 5.0 release is the one to support ARM core. I heard quite a long time ago that Motorola was boosting the power on the Dragonball. The faster Dragonball now runs at 30MHz. It's CISC processor, so actual MIPS for the Dragonball is 1/5 of the processor clock. I don't think 6 MIPS is enough to do MP3. Therefore, I don't think the next generation Palms are ready to play MP3, unless 1) Dragonball moves up in MHz greatly, or 2) Palm opts for a non MP3 format. Of course, there is always the serial port plug on module that could access the SD/MMC slot, but I am not sure if the SD slot is integrated to this extent in Palm OS 4.0.

Regards,

Khan
