U.S. and Britain See No Hazard But Some Members Want Proof

John,
It looks like your viewpoint is shared by US officials as well.... I've wondered why the "vaccine-cocktail story" was given such a poor media pitch as the likely best track to explain the Balkans Syndrome, and then, bang! I got it.... as the Bush Administration's just around the corner, American officials already align themselves with the next US administration's presumable aloofness vis-a-vis Europe. I mean, US neo-isolationists just let the "DU" yarn spin out of control and, consequently, pave the way for an easier US withdrawal from the Balkans....
However, in a long-term perspective, the issue for US neo-isolationists will be, how to cope with a hostile Eurasia? NATO was an alliance, after all, so, if the US and Eurasia are no longer allies then what are they towards each other? Mere economic rivals? Future geopolitical foes? Looks like we ain't seen nothing yet.... The collapse of NATO is just a warmup --the real battles lie ahead. |
