The report I heard about Socks was that they were planning to adopt him out, which is certainly fuzzy. It makes sense for them to give him to a friend, and Bettie Curry strikes me as a great person to have him. I'm relieved.

I love cats, like dogs as well. We've got both. Sometimes it's like an animal ranch here, when they stampede after each other. My husband is enormously comforted by his dogs. They go to the boatbuilding shop with him every day. I really believe that, in his case, having pets has helped him maintain good contact with other people.

I do agree with you on the rather silly focus that Americans have on their pets. It's the mark of a "fat" society, when so much money, time and energy is spent on domestic pets when social programs for the disdvantaged are so hotly debated.
