Interesting article Sam. Bing has said he expects a shakeout in the industry at some point when the industry supply catches up with and exceeds demand, but I believe I recall Bing saying in one of the slide presentations that he expects industry supply to come more in line with demand beginning in year 2002. Nevertheless, the game plan is for SSTI to emerge stronger than ever from an industry shake out due to the supposed Superflash advantages:

--low cost structure
--inherent small form factor
--smaller die size
--less periphery circuitry
--faster time to market
--low power consumption/low voltage
--fast erase time
--more reliable
--scalable as die sizes shrink

I see Eli Harari, CEO of Sandisk, participated in a very bullish interview yesterday. Near the end of the interview Eli appeared to suggest that all the flash companies put together were not going to be keep up with demand over the coming years:

I think that for the next 5-10 years the markets are going to grow faster than any one of us combined can bring to bear new capacity. And I think it's going to be a very exciting ride for the next 5-10 years. Very much like Intel's early years when they finally got the microprocessor design wins rolling out there. Just on an incredible expansion.


{No wonder Ausdauer gets so pumped up after listening to Eli. This guy makes the enthusiastic Ausdauer sound like a bear! (Grin)}
