I think MC gave an honest informal reply to a question based on the information at that point. The information changed and he made a prompt and honest announcement based on that information.

Think about how fast your local BBY & CC stores had a turn around in PC sales after Christmas. In retail, things change fast. MC is responding as fast as the results show up. No one can do better then that.
