I was confronted every day at college with angry, shouting, and ungrateful
students who were 'too busy' and too spoiled by their parents to meet their country's call to duty

Each one of us who lived through those times had different experiences. I grew up watching my friends mourn the deaths of their older brothers during that war. I also remember having a conversation with a recently-returned vet, who told me he couldn't wait to re-enlist so he could "go back and kill some more gooks". He never got his wish. He killed himself first.

I remember sitting in the dentist's office and reading Life magazine's coverage of the massacre at My Lai. When it came time for me to consider adoption, the memories of those photos led me to adopt an Asian infant. Viet Nam was not open for adoption at that time.

My point is this: there are millions of small tragedies, millions of small miracles, that came out of the Viet Nam war. IMO, it's much too complex to judge anyone's actions.
