<< If we allow each state to create it's own laws then we may end up like the old Soviet Union.........no longer a union but many individual countries. >>

I agree. The Federal Government has to insure the survival of our "united" states. If the Republican Party goes too far, we could see our country splitting up like either the Soviet Union, or many other countries that had weakened federal powers.

<< All Americans are granted certain rights by the Constitution and the Bill of Rights so the federal gov't should be required to enforce the policy of those documents. >>

Some of the more rabid Republicans only want to enforce Federal powers when it agrees with their dogmatic goals and power thirst.

<< If the Republicans truly believe in States rights then why didn't they support the decisions of the FLorida Supreme Court in our "election" in Nov.? >>

They don't really believe in "states rights". They believe in "divide and conquer". If the American people remain united thru the protection of the constitution and the federal government, they will remain strong. If the radical wing of the Republican Party can divide our country into 50 totally separate states, then it is easier for them to force their dogmatic, fundamentalist views upon us.

Going one step further, the Republican Party in Florida has been trying to weaken the powers of the Florida Supreme Court system. If they get away with destroying the balance of powers in Florida, that could result in the first domino falling towards ultimate destruction of what has made the U.S. a strong and united country. It is scary!

<< If we had left slavery up to individual states we would probably still have plantations with slaves in the South. >>

Very true. Unfortunately, we are being threatened with the possibility of religious slavery, as they have in many other countries.
