Bush has taken a relatively light stance on the issue of the land grab so far. He has made some criticizing comments, but I don't think he has gone so far as to say he will do everything in his power to undo the land grab. However, other Republicans have and they are pressuring Bush to take up the cause...

"President-elect Bush has not said whether he would try to roll back the new Clinton forest restrictions; but during his campaign, he suggested the proposal - announced more than a year ago - paid too little attention to concerns from Western states and the impact on logging and other industries."

"President-elect Bush has criticized actions by President Clinton (news - web sites) that restrict timber cutting, oil drilling and mining on federal land, and some Western Republicans are urging him to reverse several of those decisions."

"Gale Norton, President-elect Bush's choice to head the Interior Department, once suggested that government recognize property owners' ``right to pollute'' and that they be compensated for losses when forced to protect the environment."

Republicans such as former Montana Gov. Marc Racicot and Idaho Gov. Dirk Kempthorne were already urging action. Bush transition spokesman Ari Fleischer pledged Thursday a review, once Bush takes office, of ``each and every'' last-minute executive order. ``He's been a busy beaver,'' Fleischer said of Clinton.

"Another of the plan's most vocal critics, Sen. Larry Craig, R-Idaho, has promised ``to leave no stone unturned'' to find a way to block the Clinton regulation. Several senators have said they will use a never-been-invoked 1996 law that allows Congress to rescind a regulation within 60 days."
