*OT* My guess is a more versatile version of Dean Kamen's Individual Transporter (IT) might be priced at $2000 to replace motor scooters (or $20,000 including FDA approval as a medical device). This could make the "Thomas Edison of medical devices" also the "Henry Ford" of powered wheelchairs although he refuses to call them wheelchairs.

Using the link here back to this short 11/22/99 InfoWorld column at

idg.net

and its link at the bottom to this June, 1999 MSNBC article at

msnbc.com

I see the same love of technology, development time frame, market positioning clues and descriptions of 'architecting' communities for this device as they now call "IT" in the most recent article you linked.

The eleven minute video linked to the 06/99 MSNBC video is well worth watching IMHO.

Whatever it is, it is a clever way to get more attention.
