I think that American society in the 70s was traumatized by the denouement to the Vietnam War, the Watergate scandal, the oil crisis, the rise of stagflation, and the sense of ineffectuality bred by the Carter era. Reagan brought a new optimism and dynamism, which affected even those who despised him, as the economy began to boom, the Cold War wound down, and the Berlin Wall fell. Thus, I think the 80s were far superior to the 70s as a whole.....
