Aurora commences Midrim/Foy drilling program
Aurora Platinum Corp ARP Shares issued 1,127,367 Jan 9 2001 close $5.000 Jan 10 2001 6:15:15 Mr. George Plewes reports A winter drilling program has commenced on each of the Midrim and Foy projects. The Midrim project is located 20 kilometres northeast of Ville-Marie, Que., and the focus of the drilling program is to define reserves of high-grade nickel-copper-platinum-palladium mineralization intersected in the first phase of drilling (as reported in Stockwatch Dec. 11, 2000). A further two rigs will be mobilized to the Midrim-Belleterre project in the next few weeks to drill known Cu-Ni-PGM prospects and test significant electromagnetic conductors delineated in the company's airborne magnetic/electromagnetic survey completed in November, 2000. The company plans to drill 10,000 metres in the Midrim-Belleterre project during the winter drilling program. A downhole electromagnetic survey was completed on all the Midrim holes completed in the first phase and deeper EM conductors were defined. Drilling has commenced on the Foy project located in the Sudbury district, Ontario, where three vertical 800-metre-deep holes are to be completed for the purposes of conducting downhole geophysical surveys. Prior to the year-end break, hole one and part of hole two were completed. Disseminated and massive sulphides were intersected in both these holes and assay results are pending. A second rig will be mobilized to the Foy project immediately to test airborne geophysical targets associated with an interpreted buried embayment. Several extensive magnetic highs interpreted to be deep sulphides in the sublayer are the initial drill targets. A total of 8,000 metres of drilling is planned. On the Falconbridge township footwall project also located in the Sudbury district, Ontario, the airborne magnetic/electromagnetic survey completed by the company has revealed a number of significant EM conductors and deep geophysical targets. A program of ground geophysics will be initiated shortly followed by drilling in February. One of the targets on the footwall project has been interpreted as a faulted extension of the East mine. On Aurora's 100-per-cent-owned Lansdowne House project, Ontario, a Megatem airborne survey is anticipated to commence within the next week. The Lansdowne House area is associated with a mafic-ultramafic layered complex extending for approximately 20 kilometres in strike length. Outcrop in this area is poor however limited rock sampling by the company indicates that the complex is highly anomalous in PGMs. The airborne survey will be conducted on detailed 100-metre spaced lines and is intended to define EM conductors and to fingerprint the basal portion of the complex which has potential to contain Merensky/Stillwater-type PGM deposits. Drilling is planned to commence in February. Aurora Platinum is actively exploring for nickel-copper-platinum-palladium deposits in Ontario and Quebec. Aurora is exploring with Falconbridge Limited and on several 100-per-cent-owned properties in the Sudbury district, Ontario. Another 100-per-cent-owned property is located in the Lansdowne House ultramafic complex where several Cu-Ni-PGM occurrences have been delineated. Southwestern Gold Corporation owns 25.5 per cent of the issued shares in Aurora. (c) Copyright 2001 Canjex Publishing Ltd. canada-stockwatch.com |
