CEO who have no scientific back ground and vision will ultimately fail.

If true, then we're in good hands with both JDSU and SDLI. Both are founded and managed by scientists who built their companies from the ground up. They also respect each other which should go a long way towards making the merger easier to pull off.

As for Cisco, Chambers has done a fantastic job up to a point. The transition from the enterprise market to carrier may be his Waterloo --- the Peter Principle on a corporate level. Judging by the companies they bought, it appears they went hunting with a shotgun, not high-powered rifle.
