Ten,

I guess with the right management, such telecommuting is possible, but I don't believe mass telecommuting is the solution to traffic congestion

It isn't a question of management, it is a question of attitude and belief. I know a guy who wastes 2 hours a day commuting from Pleasanton to Palo Alto. He gets to the office and spends the day sitting in front of his computer. What did he, or his employer, gain by wasting that time driving?

One or two days in the office a week is enough for meetings. How much would the quality of life improve in Silicon Valley if:

1. People could live further out and buy affordable housing?
2. Rush hour traffic was reduced by 50%?
3. Parents actually spent some time at home with their children?

Why do you think I left the valley?
