My goodness- think of the restrictions the CHURCH put on artists!

And who can forget the great muralist Diego Riviera and the destruction of his mural commissioned by Nelson Rockefeller for the RCA building? That mural was DESTROYED, because Diego would not remove the face of Lenin from "Man at the Crossroads". In doing this Rockefeller obliterated a master work by one of the modern geniuses of painting. It was, imo, equivalent to the destruction of a Rembrandt. Restrictions ABOUND- and always have done.
