The Register is speculating that Rambus may be informing Microsoft that its legal battles
with Micron and although not mentioned in the article, Nvidia, could impact the release of
the X-box. Recall that Sega was named in the lawsuit that Rambus launched last year at
Hitachi because Hitachi provided the controllers for Dreamcast. It was speculated that
Sega put pressure on Hitachi to settle. Will Microsoft with the support of Intel, who
provides the processor for X-Box, put the squeeze on Micron and Nvidia, to settle?
Could Barrett's concern about Rambus being a "toll" collecter resulted from frustation
that Intel was being drawn into this controversy? Now that the P4 has been successfully
lanched and appears headed for a very rapid ramp and RDRAM prices are dropping
rapidly, Barrett may be much more friendly to Rambus which would bode well as the
Wintel team could strong arm Micron and Nvidia into
cooperating.-http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/3/15984.html
