If they see no need for a degree, they won't be wasting their time or money on it- no matter what the 'experts' suggest. Since the state economy is highly based on transportation and manufacturing, there is indeed little need for advanced degrees to find work. It would make you overqualified for most jobs.

It's a dangerous cycle though, this type of thinking. With so few people getting college degrees, it assures a continuing shortage of jobs/employers which require a degree.
