Nostradamus - Re: "I will save you the trouble - the clown Nostradamus sucks. "

I finally agree with you on something.

As for Cyrix being bought by IBM - most likeley not.

As old and as knowledgeable as you are, I am absolutely certain that you remember IBM developing and selling their own Intel 486 competitive chip - the "BLUE LIGHTNING".

This was an IBM 486 based on Intel's 486 - they used to have a cross license for processors.

IBM announced a 100 MHz Blue Lightning in 1992 which took them a long time to ever get to market.

By the time they did, Intel had produced their own 100 MHz 486 (DX4) in 1993, and IBM's Blue Lightning came out as a feeble 75MHz device.

IBM got their lunch handed to them by Intel in that arena.

Ditto the PowerPC chip with Apple. You can fill in the details yourself.

After all these reversals, I am as certain as you are that IBM would love to go after Intel in the CPU market place.

However, I am also certain (but you aren't) that IBM knows that they cannot compete with Intel at Intel's game.

Let's face it - if you were selling PCs, would you buy a CPU chip from a company that is marketing a PC, with that same CPU, against you? Do you want to finance your competition?

Why do you think DEC has trouble selling their own Alpha chip?

IBM may be dumb, but IBM's not stupid.
