MSFT operating systems sure are finicky.

my background is in computers hardware and software, but when it comes to wintel, instead of trying to figure out how it works, I try to figure out what not to mess with :-)

I'm real careful what I install on my main machine... but occasionally I still get bit... for example, this past wkend I was once again confronted w/ MSIE asking if I wanted to install Windows Media Player... so this time I said yes. after install, it still didn't work... and on top of that, somehow it trashed my network config!
deinstalled it, deinstalled my network stuff, reinstalled fresh the network stuff and it came back alive... PITA!

moral of this story... "don't fix it if it ain't broke"
