"Spotted owls" are a mechanism to control development. Many times the Endangered Species Act has been the only way to control senseless encroachment into the wilderness.



But should it be done on the federal level? Zoning is usually a local thing. If your owned some property in southern CA and the federal Gov said you couldn't clear the brush/bramble around your home (as a fire break) because of some endangered mouse, wouldn't you be upset? That actually led to some homes burning down during a brush fire a few years ago.

The law needs to be more honest- it needs to protect habitat wilderness areas for its sake alone.
