Dear JDN, you're absolutely right.... Steve Lee goes to extreme lengths to justify NT over Linux, whose arguments can all be used to justify Solaris over NT: 1) NT more secure than Linux (false) as Linux has never been submitted to C2 classification which NT4.0 does not have, only NT3.5 and trusted Solaris. 2) License being a minor issue despite the sum of 100,000 * $200 = two extra E10K's 3) Other costs, like 5000 extra system administrators per 20 NT cluster when 2 would be enough for two E10K's. 4) Avoiding the issue of economic efficiency by passing the buck: "the process to decide to use NT was completed before my company was involved....". 5) Innocence by ignorance: "I am just working....". The only creditable argument that he has may be that a web based infrastructure may now work over a WAN, which is only as creditable as saying the architecture was designed to work under high throughput and reliability. This is what happens with multimeg office components running amok inside the government.
