I remember discussing the death penalty with my grandfather, a very conservative man. He was opposed to it, and I found that surprising. I asked him why, and he said:

Sometimes they get the wrong guy....

I found that pretty hard to argue with.

Should a necessarily imperfect system be allowed to impose an irrevocable penalty?
