TAIWANESE INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY EXPORTS UP SIGNIFICANTLY

Taipei, Jan 11, 2001 (EFE via COMTEX) -- The sale of Taiwanese information technology (IT) products to foreign computer makers increased significantly in 2000, the island's Informatics Industry Institute (III) said Thursday.
U.S.-based Compaq led the way, purchasing $10 billion of Taiwanese IT goods, according to III data.
Japan's Toshiba, Hitachi, Sony, NEC and Mitsubishi purchased $3.52 billion of Taiwanese IT products, up an impressive 89 percent compared to 1999.
The top 10 U.S.-based importers of the island's IT production purchased $29.6 billion of goods in 2000, up 47 percent compared to the previous year.
The top five European importers of Taiwanese IT goods acquired $1.52 billion of products last year, up 46.1 percent compared to 1999. EFE |
