Hello all,

Two points I'd like to throw in the ring, more directly to the MS bigots on this thread.

1. The office environment is EXACTLY the FIRST place where Java will be most effective in curbing computing costs at the hardware, software and support levels. Just think about what an average user does all day long: write/read letters/reports/presentations, write/read/send email, maybe video-conference(soon), plan/schedule daily activities and some other odds and ends. No more games! (Can't win them all.) Aren't these EXACTLY what Corel's and other's Java based applications can do? On hardware platforms (non-Microsoft and non-Intel)? From anywhere there is a LAN/WAN or telephone connection? Aren't large corporations (and eventually small companies) moving towards centralized document management where all data is centrally stored and accessible by everyone based on a security protocol? The intranet growth has been fueled primarily by the need to share data across the company ASAP before it gets stale (important if your in marketing, sales, engineering) and with reduced efforts and costs. Aren't all these needs addressed by Java? I firmly believe so. While WinFrames may address some such as central access and storage it is basically back to the stone age of the dumb terminal. Java is a 1990's technology while WinFrame is clearly back in the 1960's. What do you think will happen when the WinFrame server goes down, as it will? You pretty much have a company at a stand still. With Java, people can still carry on working. The ratio of Java users to server is and will be demonstrated in real scenarios to much higher than the WinFrame user to server ratio. If WinFrame is the best Microsoft can do, it means that they are in panic mode. It won't be long before even Microsoft embraces Java before their left behind with relics such DOS.

Best Regards.
