| Chordiant jumps 40 percent on BskyB deal

NEW YORK, Jan 11 (Reuters) - Chordiant Software Inc. <CHRD.O>, which makes customer management systems, on Thursday said it signed a multimillion-dollar deal with British Sky Broadcasting group <BSY.L>, sending the software maker's stock up more than 40 percent.

British Sky Broadcasting, whose television services reach nearly 5 million people, said Chordiant's systems for bill paying and other customer services will help it to expand rapidly.

Cupertino, Calif.-based Chordiant completed an impressive initial public offering last February before being pummeled along with many other technology issues in March.

In Thursday afternoon trade, the stock was up $1-1/8, or 42.9 percent, at $3-3/4 on Nasdaq, but far from its high of $54-1/16.

BskyB, as the broadcaster is known, offers sports, movies, entertainment and news in Britain. The company said it expects to expand its customer base to 7 million by 2003.
