An intel could end up owning a big piece of that market just the way Sony did and sell a lot of processing power too.

Not exactly, if memory serves: What Sony did after they invented the cd, was to buy Columbia Records and its inventory.

They paid at the time what seemed to be a crazy, Wacko, ridiculously stupid, stratospheric price of 6 BILLION dollars (!!!). (Herb and Charlie Allen and Allen and Company had paid a lousy 700 Million for all of Columbia a few short years before.)

Sony eventually converted the entire Columbia Catalog to CD's and resold one recut CD for every Vinyl Album that had ever been purchased in the History of Mankind.

When we last left our heros, Sony was made about 6 Billion PER YEAR for about 10 years for its original investment.

Thereby lending new meaning to that old record,

"Old Love Songs Always Make Me Cry".
