mtnlady (and anyone),

Knowing that you follow the front office space and Nortel closely, I need your help, please.

In a link tekboy provided, a Siebel employee wrote in the Fool Siebel folder some highlights of Tom Siebel's speech at Siebel's Sales Summit that took place this week. One of the points the writer made is that Vantive, which s/he thought had been acquired by Nortel and which s/he thought was the #2 provider of CRM, has had the sales force dismantled, thus eliminating a competitor. If I remember correctly, Vantive was acquired by PeopleSoft and Clarify was acquired by Nortel. Additionally, I'm pretty sure Clarify was #2, not Vantive. (Any discussion about Oracle being #2 isn't relevant to this post.)

I doubt that Vantive's salesforce has been redirected to the point that it is no longer a competitor. In the last few weeks I read something about PeopleSoft (I think an interview with its CEO) that said PeopleSoft is selling more CRM software than any other kind of product. Therefore, I think it is more likely that the writer was referring to Nortel's acquisition of Clarify. Have you got any confirmation about Clarify's current role in Nortel?

I'll work on my end and will post this in the Siebel folder at SI.
