what they don't realize is that this is utterly foolish...it's one of the big reasons for the misguided policies of the Fed and the misallocation of capital they engender. publicizing these bogus data undermines the entire economy, as businessmen and monetary authorities keep making wrong decisions.
just look at CPI...it's gone from slightly off track to utterly ridiculous, especially in the past two years. NG costs exploding? no problem, BLS tells you where they SHOULD be, instead of telling you where they ARE. it's reminiscent of the old communist bloc really. a completely useless piece of information, aside from the propaganda aspect.
